Surgical methods
With surgical methods such as deep brain stimulation, the cardinal symptoms of the disease including tremors, uncontrollable movements and movement inhibition (off phases) can be significantly improved by the impulses triggered by implanted electrodes. Tremors sometimes disappear altogether. Deep brain stimulation, however, is suitable only for a limited number of patients whose symptoms can no longer be adequately controlled in the long term by medication.
